Again

Clay and I went to the doctor again today - we both seem to be feeling horrible.

Clay has worsened bilateral ear infections (in comparison to when we went last Friday), a very red throat, a yeast diaper rash, the beginnings of thrush, and a heart murmur (only because he is dehydrated, I'm sure because he didn't have it last Friday when we went). He was started on another antibiotic, yeast medication, and I was told to give him Motrin around the clock until I notice a marked improvement in how he feels. He is to breastfeed constantly (or bottle feed because with thrush they tend not to want to breastfeed), we are supposed to offer him a lot of water, and he gets to eat a gallon of ice cream a day if he so chooses until he is well. We have to keep an eye on his urine output and make sure he is having at least 8 wet diapers a day - which I am sure he is. He is dehydrated because he is pooping every 20 minutes.

He is being a trooper through it all - I am so proud of him. And humbled by him. (And feel like a baby compared to him.)

I, too, have bilateral ear infections (do 30 year olds even get ear infections??), strep throat, and a viral infection. He said it was very unusual for the strep culture to come back positive after having been on penicillin for almost a week at this point, but it did. He also said I have a viral infection because both of my ears are infected and I am running a high temp still. I have actually felt worse since Monday evening, but just thought I was getting "over the hump." Not so much. I am now doubling my dose of penicillin each time, taking steroids, and taking ibuprofen around the clock for the temp. (I would take this 100 fold over Clay being sick for one minute.)

We will be on the mend soon, I suppose. I hope.
