It's been a long 10 days. Clay and I got sick around the same day (last Thursday - as in 10 days ago Thursday) and we have been miserable together. I'm sure he's sick of my snotty nose and I am sure sick of him having a snotty nose!
Today was the first day that I could tell he was feeling more like himself. He FINALLY started eating better - taking more than 1 ounce of breastmilk at a time. The one things that has been practiced and perfected in the last 10 days is his breastfeeding skills. You would think that those skills would have already been perfected by now (I mean, he is almost 10 months old) but since he has been sick he has been breastfeeding so well. It is what has brought him so much comfort. And it also made it easy on me - there were a few days I felt so bad that all I wanted to do is lay on the floor and breastfeeding Clay allowed me to do just that.
Clay spent a night in the hospital and even though it was difficult for all of us - mainly Clay because he is the one that got stuck for an IV 6 or 7 times before they finally got it - it was worth it. I truly believe that giving him those strong IV antibiotics and so much fluid made all the difference. He has now had bilateral ear infections for 10 days - I will take him back to the doctor to check his ears sometime this week. Casey and I talked about it and decided that if they are still infected we would talk about tubes for his ears. We both agree that we would rather him not have them, but we also don't look forward to another half a month of an earache. It doesn't make much sense if it can be avoided all together. So, we will see.
I look forward to blogging on a regular basis again now that we are feeling better!
