Casey and I are on the way to re-inventing our lives. Not that anything is wrong with our lives now - in fact, a whole lot is right! We are just ready to (really) understand what the "basics" are.
We are about to change a whole lot in a short amount of time and we are both so excited about it all! We will hopefully start a travel assignment August 1st - be it DC or Denver. (I have accepted a travel nurse position with an amazing company!) We are taking the bare minimums with us - okay, the bare minimums plus 2 bikes and Clay's bike trailer!
Not only do we feel this is a great opportunity for our family to see the US, but we have many goals that come along with this adventure as well. Our ultimate goal is to become debt free - we want to pay off our cars, sell our house, and have the freedom to "live" without the weight and burden of debt. I know it may not seem like a lot of debt to some, but I think it is a magnificent goal to become completely debt free! I cannot imagine the freedom we will feel!
Another goal is for Casey to find his passion and run with it! (Another reason we would like to be debt free.) Casey will have the most important job ever while we are traveling - being at home with our son. It will give him the freedom to find what it is he truly loves and wants to do for a career - our plan is to settle once our debts are paid and Casey will have all the freedom to focus only on school without the burden of working as well. I am excited for him to have this opportunity! (He will probably take classes online while we are away as well.)
We are excited to live with just the basics - as we will be living in a (somewhat) furnished one bedroom apartment on each assignment. We are looking forward to spending the majority of our time outside - finding new and exciting hobbies that we can enjoy as a family. One of the perks of traveling is we get to choose what city we want to travel to. We are being very choosy! We are tired of overwhelming heat so during the summers we will travel somewhere (a whole lot) less hot and humid. And during the winter we plan on going somewhere a little more mild - Hawaii, Florida, etc. We want to "live" outside and teach Clay the importance of being active. If we make it his every day life I'm sure he will love it! (He already prefers to be outside - if he gets fussy in the house all we have to do is open the door, let him go outside, and he's as happy as a clam!)
It's a little unnerving leaving everything we have both known our whole lives, but we both want to look back on our lives and know that we went out on a limb and took a great adventure! We also want Clay to know that there is life outside of our small town. I think we will find that we are more adaptable than we think. And I think through the travel we will all learn to be a little more outgoing, a lot less reserved in meeting new people, and more versatile in the people we have in our lives! We will miss everyone here but we will be back often - and we truly appreciate how supportive you all have been!
I will update often as we embark on this great adventure!
