Eye Gunk

We woke up this morning and Clay had some yucky, yellow eye gunk in his right eye. We gave him a bath and I just watched it and called the doctor. Nothing to be too worried about he said - maybe a blocked tear duct. We have to massage his eye and the bridge of his nose with a warm wash cloth several times a day for a couple of days and just watch it. If it doesn't get better (which I am sure it will) we have to go get antibiotic eye drops.

Even though I work with preemies, newborns, and infants in my career it is amazing to me what little I know when it comes to my own child! I look at him with mom eyes instead of nurse eyes. That being said - my mom eyes are just as thorough as my nurse eyes, but the thought processes that follow my observations are not the same. I need someone to tell me what is normal and what is abnormal with Clay - and I need someone to tell me what I need to do and what I shouldn't do with the abnormal. This is all strange to me. I just assumed that I would look at him with the same eyes I look at all babies, but it is NOT the same. It is nothing near the same.

All of this to say - I will be a better mother because of this and I also think I will be a better nurse because of Clay. Amazing the things that he has done for me in the short amount of time I have known him!
