Clay will be 7 months tomorrow! I cannot believe it!
I have been strictly breastfeeding him since birth without supplementation with formula until today. I plain and simple am not producing enough to keep up with him. I am producing the same amount I have been for months now, it has not decreased, but his demand has increased! So, today marks the start of some formula feeding. He is eating 5 ounces every 2 hours or so, so I am mixing 4 ounces of breastmilk with 1 ounce of formula for each feed. (I am actually okay with it - today. I do feel a weight lifted off my shoulders worrying constantly that I am not producing enough for him. But I still don't like it.) Ideally I would loved to have strictly breastfed him for a full year and I still intend on breastfeeding/pumping until he weans himself, but at least now there is not so much pressure.
He was not happy with the first bottle I gave him. Okay, he was quite pissed. He sputtered and gagged and even threw the bottle, but a little singing went a long way. He finally took it and the next bottle wasn't quite as traumatic. (He still gagged the first time he swallowed, but he took the full 5 ounces. And he hasn't thrown up yet, so, I am guessing his little gut is tolerating it okay so far. He has had 2 very loose poops, but that is to be expected with any change in his diet.) I hope he continues to tolerate it okay. And I hope I continue to be okay with giving him formula.
