Yesterday was the beginning of "solid food training." Clay says "YUCK!" He disliked it. Scratch that. He HATED it. I can't say that I blame him, the organic rice cereal tastes like a penny. I don't know if it's the iron that it is fortified with or what, but, it does not taste good.
For a month now I have been offering him a spoon to practice with and it doesn't seem to phase him having a spoon in his mouth. He actually wraps his tongue around the spoon and tries to suck on it, so, I naturally thought "maybe he is ready for rice cereal!" And I am still not convinced I am wrong, it just needs to taste better for him to enjoy it. I think I will try offering him a spoon with just breast milk on it today and see what happens. I am not going to force the issue, he will eat when he is good and ready, but I also want to keep introducing it to him. (Failed attempts or not.)
He was pretty hilarious. I saw faces yesterday that I have never seen him make and I am now convinced that we will never wonder if he likes a food or not. He even shrieked at one point as if to say "stop! please do not put another penny-tasting bite in my mouth!"
I did have a good idea about modifying the taste. I may buy an apple, puree it, add breast milk to it to make it extremely runny, and mix the rice cereal with it. Basically applesauce with rice cereal in it. I am still on the fence about this idea. (I have been pretty adamant about not offering solids (meaning anything other than rice cereal) until he is 6 months old. Any thoughts or experiences will be welcomed!
