First Christmas

For our first Christmas Casey and I "made" each others present spending minimal money. I use the term made loosely. We acquired older things, fixed them up with minimal money, and considered them made. The best present I have ever received (and the most thoughtful) was my Schwinn bike that Casey re-vamped for me. He had his moms old frame (that fit him perfectly) and someone actually brought the exact same frame (a lot smaller version) into Chainwheel and Casey promptly got it and fixed them up to match. We had matching Schwinns, with subtle differences. My handle bars had pink grips, his had gray and so on.

We rode them some throughout the years, but mostly have just had them around to look at. Needless to say, Casey has quite a collection of bikes and for the sake of getting rid of stuff, we are trying to find them a new home. I could keep them forever and never ride them again because I get emotionally attached to things. Yes, things. But I am trying to change that. So, I am reluctantly letting them go. I know we will never ride them. We both have very comfortable bikes now. (The Schwinns were never quite comfortable to ride.) BUT I will never forget the trips to Vinos to have pizza (and beer), the rides around the river trail, the time that Eric rode Casey's Schwinn around the river trail while Casey and I were on road bikes. (How did you keep up by the way? And who knew that you would be an avid road bike rider now??) I will never forget the thought that Casey put into the bikes and I will never forget the times we had on those bikes! (Yes, this is a whole post about bikes. Crazy much?)
