Basics

The last 2 weeks and 4 days have taught me a lot about getting back to the basics. There are basics needs that we all have - food, water, and shelter. There is also a need for love and affection, I truly believe this.

That being said - I realized that I have walked through much of life thinking that I had great "needs." I needed the new shirt, I needed a new house, I needed the nicer things, I needed the chocolate cake - it just seems like I have "needed" a lot of things. That's just it, I have needed things. I forgot, or failed to remember, what I actually needed. I have never gone without my basic needs being met, yet I still felt like I had to have more. I didn't realize the importance of just my own basic needs.

I get it now. Clay has taught me all too well what is important - our basic needs. He needs food. Period. He does not yet need water per say, other than what is provided in my breast milk, but you get the picture. He needs shelter. He has shown me, on so many levels, that the shelter that he needs is more about a small space than it is a whole, new house. And he needs love and affection. He can't say yet "mom, I need love," but it is very apparent that when he is upset a little momma or daddy love goes a long way.

All of this to say I am motivated to get back to the basics and we will! I want Clay to grow up knowing what is important and necessary. That's all for now.

  1. Oh how this is so true. We all need to remember the basics, and we all get distracted by the difference between want and need. I am a huge fan of moving back to basics!!!!
